Standing Committee
on Medical Education deals with all questions connected with
Yugoslav National Medical Education system and actuel Bologna
Process in European Higher Education. This questions are very
interseting for our students and they are becoming much more
active in SCOME. As a product of this activities SCOME developed
it's new national wide project "KORAK" (in english - step).
We strongly
believe that medical students should play an important role in
reshaping medical education. Based on that belief, our committee
will try to involve as many students as possible to make medical
education in Yugoslavia better. For that reason our committee is
going to increase interaction and insist on better communication
with the IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students
Associations) Standing Committee on Medical Education, with the
participation of medical students from all around the world,
sharing experience and information about
medical education worldwide.
Projects
KORAK ("step")
/ The medical education evaluation
project
IFMSA Serbia Standing
committee on Medical Education believes that students as the
recipients of medical education are also the natural evaluators.
Valid evaluation is the first step in changing and improving
medical education. For that purpose SCOME will start a project
to improve the quality of medical education evaluation performed
by students. Medical students must be asked and they must give
their thoughts and opinions concerning medical education they
receive. Students must evaluate the work of teachers, the
quality of lectures and curriculum, so they can receive the
best possible education they can.
Electives In Medical Education
Together with IFMSA SCOME and with a few reform oriented
medical schools ,our committee took part in this programme to
provide students, interested in medical education changes and
alternative approaches in medical education, with the chance to
collect some experience and information in a genuine
environment. Our students can visit for a certain period ( six
weeks to three months ) University in Maastricht or McMasters
University in Canada to see how the PBL (Problem Based Learning
) system works. With active participation our students can be
introduced to that special educational philosophy and curricular
structure.
The Book-aid project
Very interesting and practically oriented
project is the collection of medical books for University
libraries in countries that have the lack of appropriate
teaching material. Among those countries is also our country.
Our committee is going, in association and cooperation with
IFMSA SCOME, to find donors and
potential sponsors, who are willing to help our
University
libraries to obtain contemporary medical literature.
